ABOUT ORACLE

Oracle, is a natural science store, opened since 2013, featuring framed insects, bones, unusual taxidermy, beautiful memento mori pieces, and oddities. We strive to acquire humane taxidermy and share a passion for the unique and strange side of the natural world. This thoughtfully curated shop is for lovers of the odd, beautiful, and the bizarre along with a place to learn and delve deeper into the unknown. Follow us @oraclekc, web schedule, or our newsletter to keep up with events and classes offered at our storefront!

Meet the Team:

We are a tiny team! Everyone doing a little bit of everything from prepping specimens, entomology, taxidermy, and display. Oracle’s owner, Alessandra, is our Skeletal & Bone, Pet Memorial, and Home Depot Specialist, winning the 2019 World Taxidermy Championship for skeletal articulations and second place in 2024. Alessandra developed her fascination with insects and the natural sciences as a child. She would walk down to the Insectarium and Olympic Gardens of Montreal, Canada and day-dream about spirits and monsters as a mad scientist. Today, she's still dreaming up monsters through her ink-blot art, but with a BFA in Printmaking and Psychology, we're pretty sure she isn't “mad.” While she spends her days at Oracle, the rest of her time is split between working as an Artist Assistant at Staab Studios, Pet Memorialist, and a hobbyist spider nerd.  To see more of Alessandra's artwork and bone articulations, visit here.

Melissa, our shop lead, not only helping in production and wholesale, but also the brains behind our digital design. She began in the world of natural sciences also at a young age but then solidified through her art documenting taxidermy and decay for her BFA in animation. Beyond Oracle, “Melossa” composes delicate, hand-cut paper assemblages of select Japanese artworks from public domain paired with handcrafted paper from Tokyo with beautifully pinned specimens. With this work, she hopes to cultivate a respect for the insects all around us and introduce the viewer to lesser-known Japanese woodblocks prints and their artists. See more of her work here.
