Tyler Thrasher & Moonbeam Flora

Tyler Thrasher’s work coexists between art and science often embodying narratives of esoteric alchemy. This can range from glowing flora, crystallized insects and published works that deliver a creative lens toward embracing our inner scientist. Tyler Thrasher is an artist and self taught citizen scientist whose work focuses on the lines between scientific observation and creative pursuit. He has dedicated his creative career toward exploring how the principles of chemistry can be applied to the arts and asking the viewer to stay overspent and excited about the natural world. https://tylerthrasher.com

Kim Foster of Flwretc

FLWRS, etc is art practice by Kim Foster. She explores floral preservation to create art using the flora around the Kansas City area. Kim Foster is an artist and graphic designer in Kansas City. ltrsetc.com

Swain Scales of Blacksnail Forge

The Blacksnail Forge is an artisan blacksmith shop located in central Missouri with an emphasis on forging handcrafted blades out of reclaimed materials. Swain Scales makes unique high carbon steel culinary knives and ceremonial blades, as well as ritual tools, home decor, and other blacksmithed goods. Swain’s one-of-a-kind creations often draw inspiration from traditional blade profiles reimagined into modern designs. Using reclaimed and locally sourced materials, Swain creates his functional and beautiful offerings with a minimal impact on the environment. In his spare time, he and his family enjoy growing a no till polyculture food forest garden. Swain's knives, produce, and more can be found at the Warrensburg Farmers' Market throughout the summer season. TheBlacksnailForge.etsy.com

Sweet Destructor

Sweet Destructor is Evie Englezos, eternal, universal energy which is currently taking the form of a mortal human. Inside their work are meditations, reflections and spells to do with our moment on earth and this natural world, the limitless iterations of beauty, death and humankind's desire to cheat it, past and future histories, ancient and recent mythologies, the joy of creation and the necessity of destruction. You know, the regular stuff. Evie is bringing plenty of ceramics in their signature style, some new large platters and experimental vessels, exciting collaborative pieces, and a selection of homegoods from their collaboration with West Elm.

Atropos Curios

Inspired by the natural curiosity assemblages of the Victorian Naturalists and the Wildlife Halls of modern science museums, Jess creates sculptures and illustrations to inspire wonder, curiosity, and understanding for our natural world. Each piece is a reminder of the beauty that lies in death, and its importance in the cycle of life, interweaving science and magic together as a way to help us better relate to nature. Jess lives and works in Denver, CO. She is an artist, a practitioner of folk magic, and a lifelong student of natural science. Most of her time is spent creating, studying, teaching, searching for antique treasures, and enjoying life with her partner, cats, plants, and various invertebrate friends. She finds herself existing equally in the worlds of art, magic, and science, and is constantly looking for a way to blend the three disciplines and inspire others to find the liminal space in which these lines are blurred. www.atroposcurios.com Alt IG: @atropos_illustration

Whiskey & Bone

Handcrafted jewelry designed to make you feel bold, grounded, and unapologetically yourself. Each piece blends gemstones and mixed metals with an edge that feels effortless and intentional. Whiskey & Bone was founded by Tarrah Anderson. This month she is celebrates 11 years of handcrafted jewelry rooted in intention and individuality. Based in the Midwest, Tarrah creates each piece as a reflection of memories, road trips and the moments that make us who we are. www.whiskeyandbone.com

Opal & Gold

One-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry that’s all about unique gemstones and cool hand-engraved designs. Perfect for gifting (or treating yourself) this holiday season, each piece has its own vibe and style that stands out. Opal & Gold is all about unique, comfy jewelry made by yours truly, Lauren. Just a gal on a mission to create affordable pieces that vibe with your personal style. www.opalandgold.com

Josh Martin & Kasey Burmood Collab

Josh Martin and Bob Rodriguez are local tattooers to Kansas City, they will be tattooing select flash designs on December 20th themed around some of the more folklore, and darker aspects of the holiday season.  First come first serve!

This collaboration of Kasey’s metal chainmail techniques and Josh’s bright colored ceramics highlight the juxtaposition in their styles. This clash of color, design and material lead to a feeling of 90’s nostalgia packaged in an elevated accessory.  Kasey’s work holds strong and sharp silhouettes with high contrast chrome elements, while Josh’s uncanny bold subjects and bright colors bring whimsy to the pieces.  Metal and ceramic, color and darkness coalesce in this jewelry collaboration.  joshmartinart.com

Gina Pisto Ceramics

Gina Pisto is a Kansas City-based artist and educator who primarily makes sculptural and functional ceramic objects; she will mostly have cups, mugs, bowls, and small sculptures available. www.ginapisto.com

Holiday Festivities

  • Oracle, Natural Science (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Dear Oracle Family,

Every Holiday season, we highlight some of our favorite artists, makers, and our favorite in-house products  We made sure not to leave out any Oracle Family member; To our little witch or naturalist, to our scientists, gem hound, or especially to our makers or kids that prioritize some quality time in nature and to learn something new… We made sure to think of something for everyone (even have some fun/funny gifts, because who doesn’t need a cheer-me-up right now?) Stay tuned for more....

For the Naturalist...

When the night gets long, help a naturalist or that witch in your life bring some of that sunshine back by indulging in some nature and color - Something to cozy with, but gosh, maybe some quality time or a night of tarot cards might do the trick

ideas for you: Adorned domes and nature inspired art. A good book for some self reflection or a bit or whimsy with some herbal based tarot & tea sets. Have you seen our new line of floral and greek mythology inspired jewelry? Or hand carved medallions by Opal & Gold? Honestly, a classic ritual candle, beautiful journal, or that gem that they have been dying to get (but wouldn't splurge on themselves) is always a good bed.

For the Scientist...

Probably a tough subject to try to find a gift for - but sometimes the practical need some fun! Maybe looking into something unique or something to add to their craft - Where science meets magic and the beauty of nature

ideas for you: skulls and bones, duh, but we just got in some wonderful new specimens. Our double glass frames are always a statement piece and if their walls are packed, an articulated spine would sneak between the lines. Feathered bird articulations by Kyle Thomas are so unique to any collection. And last but not least - stay tuned - we have some fun taxidermy on the horizon.

For the Oracle...

For the person who has it all, our team put together our favorite list: Melissa picked our new line of jewelry but especially the blueberry necklace made with real lapis lazuli. She also just finished creating beautiful adorned globes to check out... Miranda has an affinity to books, so chat her up for some favorite titles. She also fill the shelves with new bone vials, gems, and other little creations... And then me; I picked the python skulls as one of my fav but also have some articulations coming to the shelves soon....

For the Kids...

The curious always needs the outlet of discovery - pull their nose out of that book by giving them another book or start a little book club! There's always something around to help them with their next project - or tools to inspire the next best thing

ideas for you: Entomology or nature based books - feed that knowledge hunger! Bug Domes and anything to inspire that connection to nature - I know awe inspiring shiny rocks and bugs were my gateway to the natural sciences. Pinsect pins and our nature ornaments are also fantastic choices for all the ages!
