The Art of Wreathing Class: Weaving Magic Through the Year - Sat, Oct 19th @9am

$88.00

Wreaths are known to most simply as festive holiday decorations to be enjoyed once every year then thrown back in the closet, but their perfect balance of form and function is too often overlooked. With clear intentions and an open heart, a simple woven wreath can become a potent portal of beauty and mystery, a strong point of connection with and appreciation of the natural world, and even a powerful gateway into harnessing and working with the cyclical nature of Time itself.

  • Saturday, October 19th @ 9am

  • Location: Oracle Natural Science, 115 West 18th Street, Suite 103, KCMO

  • Due to the limited space and supplies provided we cannot refund class fees for cancellations less than 24 hours before the class.

  • Students will receive enough grapevine to weave a medium-sized wreath and the Weaving Through the Year zine.

In this class, participants will learn the basics of safe and respectful harvesting, craft their own unique wreath out of wild-foraged materials, and learn how to begin and maintain their own “Wheel of the Year” wreath practice. Note: Participants will not be filling in their wreath during this class, but we will look to the “Odyssey of the Oracle” display wreath as an example and discuss tips and tricks that you can use at home when working on your own wreath.

Danielle Hurst Brown of Weaves Shoots and Leaves is an Earth-worker, Nature Alchemist, and a life-long Animist who is committed to living in greater communion and connection with her other-than-human kin and community. An avid co-creator with Mother Earth and her many facets, Dani draws inspiration for her art and weavings from the land and its carnival of inhabitants, as well as from life’s ever-spinning wheel of seasons and cycles. As a lover of wild spaces and a passionate grower, Dani has an ongoing relationship with our Green Ancestors and is well-versed in the tasks of tending, caring for, and harvesting them with respect and reverence.

“Odyssey of the Oracle” is a unique wreathing collaboration between Dani and Oracle Natural Science that depicts the journey through the Wheel of the Year and its revolving dance of seasons. This installation is a living entity that functions in multiple ways: as a bio-regional calendar and cycle tracker that helps the mind and body attune to the current season of life; as an intimate visual diary documenting the voyage through the year; and as a heartfelt love letter and ongoing offering dedicated to Mother Earth.
