Y'all we are super excited to be hosting a pop up shop for artists Ash Miyagawa and Johannah Miller!! This First Friday, December 2nd from 6:00pm-9:00pm - come for handmade, illustrated cards, fine art prints and ceramics - all perfect for the holidays and other gift-giving occasions!! See you there!!
{ NOVEMBER FIRST FRIDAY }
It's November! How is it already November? Halloween only just happened, and what a wonderful Halloween it was - we raised the dead, danced in the Hellfire of The Damned, banished several malocchia and ate our body weight in tiny snickers....now we have First Friday Art Walk to look forward to!
This Friday, November 6th, we will be staying open late (like we do) and in belated fashion we will be celebrating the Day of the Dead from 5-8 pm by offering a 10% discount to people who show up with their faces painted Day Of The Dead/Sugar Skull style! If you have had your eye on a special piece, this is a great chance to get a deal!!
Rita of Skeleton Key Tarot will be in the house doing mini readings from 5-8 pm and our in-house Potions Master will be mixing up a witchy brew to keep you warm and fuzzy!
See you there!
{ Something Wicked This Way Comes }
...And by wicked we mean WICKED AWESOME. We have some really incredible new pieces in the shop y'all! Gems and minerals, skulls, hanging bats, framed insects, hamsas and evil eyes (to name a few) are among our new inventory and we are gearing up for the First Friday Art Walk so get ready!
Also, by way of a friendly reminder, we still have room in our Butterflies 101 Workshop so be sure to sign up if you have been wanting to learn how to preserve and frame your own!
We have gone and made it super easy for you to sign up online here
{ First Friday Art Walk and Block Party }
It's that time again - First Friday Art Walk is happening this Friday, June 5th and HOO BOY is it going to be a good one! Skeleton Key Tarot will be in the shop doing fabulous mini-readings from 6:00-9:00 pm and we will be burning the midnight oil with extended shop hours, refreshments and new treasure for all of you! Oh, and did we mention that Mildred's Coffeehouse is having their summer block party for the Crossroads on Friday?
Forget all of your preconceived notions about chains because this Friday things will be off them. IT'S ON, Y'ALL!!!
( Pssst - our good friend and neighbor, Fraction Gallery, is exhibiting a new group show, Drawing Room featuring artists Teal Wilson, Mark Traughber, Mark Galloway and Jane Almirall - come see!)
{ GIRLS RULE, APRIL DROOLS }
That was terrible. I apologize. I'm rusty - it's been a while since we've posted - but we have our reasons! We have been busy, Y'all, so busy acquiring more treasures for the shop! We went to the Gem And Mineral Show and picked up LOADS of new things: smoky quartz, phantom quartz, pyrite ammonites, trilobites, king fisher skeletons, duck skulls, shark teeth, bats, framed insects and more! Rita Brinkerhoff of Skeleton Key Tarot will be in the shop from 6-9 pm doing mini readings and our good neighbor Fraction Print Studio is debuting a new exhibition of assemblage works called Unnatural Selection! To indulge in the vernacular of today's youth, it's gonna be tight. Come say hi and have a refreshment with us!
{ SETTLE DOWN THERE GORGEOUS }
Hey there! We are pretty excited about this month - as usual we are kicking off December with the First Friday Art Walk, during which time we will have Tarot and Palm Readings by Madison Joy! Fun City, Y'all. We also have a new shipment of beautiful specimens in the store and we will be framing them and placing them in glass domes (all done in shop!) this month! And, just in time for the holidays, we are launching our Curio Of The Month Club and let me tell you, IT IS AWESOME. Come see us!
*So, about that stunning Blue Morpho...the iridescent, taffeta-like sheen on the butterfly's wings is achieved via structural coloration. The colors produced vary depending on your viewing angle and light wavelengths because the microscopic scales which cover the Morpho's wings reflect incident light at successive layers, like waves. Pretty neato!
